Biography

Orrin is a working class Photographic Artist from Blackburn, currently based in Manchester. His work is concerned with the relationship between people and place, and the environments that they surround themselves with. A prominent theme in his work are spaces that sit on the intersection between the natural and the constructed - the interplay between these two forces, and the people that find themselves there.

Orrin's work takes an Editorial & Documentary Portraiture approach, focusing on building a connection with his sitters, through a considered and personal process.  He's drawn to learning about people's lives and backgrounds, finding what makes us unique, and exploring how our circumstances form who we are. He primarily works with an analogue workflow, which encourages an intimate process and helps at times to separate the photographer from the camera.

Alongside his creative work, Orrin also delivers photographic workshops exploring alternative and analogue techniques. He works with Super Slow Way, The National Festival of Making, and the Bureau Centre for the Arts Blackburn delivering offering

He is part of Obscura Collective, a community darkroom space in Blackburn offering use of the space for film photography processes and workshops. in 2023 he began managing and delivery of an ACE funded project (23K), engaging people with Analogue photography, from introductory workshops and a youth program, to more advanced creative sessions. In 2022 he managed and delivered a small grant project (2K) supported by Super Slow Way and in partnership with the Thrive program at the Bureau, providing an introduction to analogue technique. This culminated in a group exhibition.
